Shang Chi Marvel Movie Best Conflict Showcases His Family
In Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021), Shang Chi’s main conflict is seen with his family. Since the beginning of the Shang Chi Marvel movie, Shang Chi’s and Wenwu conflicts have been highlighted. Also, Wenwu has the ten rings, has lived for more than a thousand years, and has waged wars throughout the centuries. However, Wenwu (Shang Chi’s father) gave up his ten rings and his job role as an assassin after meeting Ying Li (Shang Chi’s mother).
Further, the role of Ying Li is played by Fala Chen, who is the guardian of the mystical dimension of Ta Lo. Later, the pair becomes a couple with two kids Shang Chi and Xialing. However, the couple’s happiness doesn’t last long as Wenwu’s enemies kill Ying Li. This forces Wenwu to take back his ten rings and his role as an assassin to avenge his enemies. To fight better with his enemies, Wenwu trains his son Shang Chi to be a killer. Also, Wenwu’s relationship with his daughter Xialing becomes more restrained, and she reminds him of his lost wife, Ying Li.
Shang Chi Marvel Movie depicts the Dweller-in-Darkness as the main villain
Although Shang Chi was training to be a killer, Xialing found her way by teaching herself secretly. Also, Shang Chi and Xialing’s dark history helped them become the heroes they have become in the Shang Chi Marvel movie. And their complicated relationship with their father, Wenwu, makes the storyline even more enjoyable.
However, by the end of the Shang Chi Marvel movie, the Dweller-in-Darkness becomes the film’s main villain. Although the Shang Chi family inspired the act, it removes the focus from the main storyline. In the movie, Wenwu gathers his children after hearing his long-lost wife, Ying Li’s voice. The voice made Wenwu think that Ying Li is being held as a prisoner in the magical world of Ta Lo.
However, in reality, the Dweller-in-Darkness imitated Ying Li’s voice to encourage Wenwu to release him into the world. Although this is beside the main point, this belief made the family of three finally together. Also, this forced them to clear out their problems and traumas, including Ying Li’s death. It marks the two-third part of the Shang Chi Marvel movie that isn’t fighting against any demons but is about a family facing its past and resolving its inner conflicts.
The Dweller-in-Darkness in Shang Chi Marvel Movie repeats the 3rd act problem
Shang Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings (2021) third and the last act changes everything. With MCU restoring its go-to conclusion by the end of the Shang Chi Marvel movie. Yes, it’s heroes fighting the monsters until they inevitably win the war, and the same is repeated in this Marvel movie.

Despite this, the focus of the 3rd part of the movie shifts to him and an army of flying monsters. And this ends with the hero eliminating all of them as if they were never a threat to him. It makes Shang Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings (2021) face the same issue as The Avengers faces.
